Dating to c.1880, this smart Scottish garter-style bracelet is a fresh arrival from Great Britain!
This banded agate bracelet is exceptional for its inventive style and its gorgeously-figured banded agate panels! It is nicely proportioned, and would have complimented the tailored fashions of the early 1880s. This jewel is crafted from 10 panels of banded agate finished with a garter-shaped tab that sits slightly above the others as a charming focal point!
The bracelet measures 3" outside diameter x 2 1/2" inside diameter, but as it is threaded on twice on sturdy elastic, it is expandable, and will fit a wrist between 6" - 7 1/4". The panels very gradually descend in size, with the smallest measuring 3/4" x 3/4" and the largest measuring 1" x 1". The "garter" panel measures 1" x 1", and is hand-cut. I believe that this bracelet has been re-strung in the past 25 years, as the elastic is strong and shows little wear.
This jewel is an exceptional example of banded agate - I find that most Victorian banded agate jewelry is slightly too dark and does not have a good deal of figuring; this jewel is superbly figured with shades of black, brown, white, beige, and cream! Each panel is slightly different, and all are highly-polished and flat cut. All of the panels are intact, without cracks or chips. This bracelet weighs a substantial 41 grams, and looks lovely on the wrist. The variety of colors will match almost anything you wear it with, and the condition is superb!
If you love the finest in Victorian Scottish or banded agate jewelry, this bracelet belongs on your wrist and in your collection! It will harmonize with all of your antique banded agate pieces, and is a delight to behold and a joy to wear. (I have also listed a grand pair of banded agate earrings which would go perfectly with this item!) This bracelet will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving. Do not miss this Scottish treasure; it is priced for quick sale!
