Dating to ca. 1820, this magnificent, museum-quality pendant features a natural aquamarine of approx. 20 carats, set into an equally impressive 20k two-color gold frame!
This jewel represents the epitome of the Georgian-era lapidary's art, and is crafted from the best materials available to the early 19th-century jeweler! Very likely French in origin, this pendant measures 1 1/4 x 1", and the frame is solid 20k yellow gold with 20k rose-gold accents (gold unmarked but tested)! The frame also features elegant scrollwork all around. Like many fine jewels of the 1820s, the gold has a matte finish, which enhances the sparkle of the gemstone!
Speaking of which, this huge aquamarine is a stellar gem, measuring 7/8" x 5/8" (20 mm x 18 mm x 6 mm) on its own! The aquamarine is natural, and is the MOST coveted shade of soft, rich pastel blue, with the faintest hint of green. It has not been artificially enhanced, and is free of chips or damage. This aquamarine weighs approx. 20 carats, and that estimation is on the conservative side!
This pendant began its life 185+ years ago as a brooch, but when it came to me, the "T" bar and pin stem were missing, so I had my jeweler adapt it into the superlative pendant you see here. Frankly, I think that this jewel works much better as a pendant than a brooch, and I have added an 18" 18k yellow gold chain so that it can be worn straight away! The chain is modern (marked "750"), but compliments the pendant perfectly. It is like getting two jewels in one!
The pendant itself weighs in at 11 grams, and with the chain, it totals 14.5 grams. Other than the conversion from a brooch to a pendant, this jewel is 100% all-original, and looks as magnificent today as when it adorned a very wealthy French lady in the 1820s. This is truly the finest Georgian-era jewel I have offered in quite a long time!
If you collect the ULTIMATE in fine Georgian jewelry, this pendant belongs around your neck and in your collection! It would also make a generous gift for any lady fond of the finest in antique jewelry. Do not miss this French masterpiece; I discovered it ten years ago at Bermondsey Market in London at 6 am, and I do not expect to find another on either side of the pond! I will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving, and up to 5 month layaway is available. As with all of my jewelry, USPS Priority shipping is FREE, so do not miss this fabulous, one-of-a-kind jewel!
