This is a fine hand woven Tapestry in Wool and Gold Thread, from the original design by French Artist "FRANCESCA GUERRIER", and executed by the French Atelier "ROBERT FOUR" in the 1980's. She was a very good friend of Georges Braque.
The tapestry size is approx. 39"wide x 52.5"tall. It is in excellent condition, with a wooden dowel in the rod pocket at the top of the back that has hanging clips attached. I have included a photo of a foldover of the tapestry to show the woven back threads.
A highly stylized version of Adam & Eve in the Garden with God, and the ubiquitous Tree in the middle. God protectively cradles the heads of Adam and Eve, as they grasp each other's hands.
A wonderful use of pink shades for the woman and a darker shade for the man, and the addition of gold threads to accent the hands of God and several outlines.
This particular design was used as the cover of her book: "Biblical Paintings", (published in 1997 by Cerf, Paris).
This design was also executed in a much larger tapestry (wall size) for the Hakuju Concert Hall in Tokyo (where it seems to be titled "David"??)
A fabulous and well executed Tapestry in a nice small size for your collection of 20th Century Abstract hangings....
