Original Oil on Artist Board, South Bay, California, Ships at a Dock, CA.1940's
The subject is a dock scene on a hazy day, perhaps at sunset, with fishing boats tied up next to a building or warehouse, with low mountains in the background, and a few large rocks in the foreground.
"South Harbor Anchorage" is the title on the Label, and I believe it to depict the "anchorage" of boats in South Bay, rather than in Alaska!! Coalinga California is just Southeast of Carmel, where there is an Historic neighborhood that is called "South Bay" ....
The total size of the frame of this small painting is approx.15" x 13", and the sight size of the painting is approx. 9.5" x 7.5", and it is in excellent untouched condition (never cleaned or repaired)
The frame is the original - wood with a cream colored paint, and a line of gilding.
The original label in the back gives Mr.Mingus address in Coalinga, and his original selling price of $15.00!! Perhaps he was in a Gallery or set up on the sidewalks??
An interesting Marine landscape, in soft & muted colors applied sparely, and somewhat "Cubist" in its style, by a California artist who has not become well known quite yet!!
