Sweetpea Cottage has located a very rare and wonderful private publication that documents the Hopi people of Arizona and their ceremonies. Published in 1928 it states "The author of this little volume spent many years in the Arizona desert country and had exceptional opportunities to study both the land and its people. He came to love the desert as a thing of life and found its dwellers to be as interesting and mysterious as their enchanted land. To Old-World weary travelers and to those seeking new thrills a visit to Hopiland is recommended by the author, Matthew M. Murphy, Late U.S. Allotting Agent for The Hopi Reservation". This item is the first edition, contains 16 pages, and 5 photos. The cover has a wonderful drawing that represents a sand painting. The booklet measures 5 1/4 inches by 7 inches. Condition is excellent. There is one very faint spot on the cover and the first two pages have small dog-eared folds on a lower corner. Other than that, this is as good as it gets for a publication that is 84 years old.
