We are offering a hard-to-find publication that is a souvenir of a 1947 practice cruise that the Midshipmen from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland took to Europe on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Randolph. The booklet contains 44 pages and has a mock-suede cover. There is some spotting on both the front and back cover along with minor tears and folds. Inside, however, the condition is much better, showing minimal dirt and damage. The cover is stapled along the spine and is weak. However, it is still intact. The cover measures 6 1/4 inches by 9 1/4 inches. The booklet is filled with photos both of life on the ship and life at various port-of-call. In addition, there are cartoons and illustrations of a character named Swabby that were done by Lew Schwartz, U.S.N.R.. The trip goes to the British Isles, Sweden and the Caribbean, each place adding new memories to the experiences of the middies. This is a rare and highly desirable publication that was made available to a very limited audience. Now, 65 years later, you, too, can share in this very special experience.
