If you collect Folk Art or collect banks, then you will love this one-of-a-kind painted turtle coin bank. Probably made in the 1940's it is a unique piece that is bound to please anybody who specializes in collecting folk art or children's coin banks. It is completely hand made and hand painted. Shaped like a turtle with a floral basket painted on the top of the shell, the head, complete with two beaded eyes, swivels and has the coin slot underneath the eyes. It measures about 9 inches long from the front of the head to the tip of the tail. It is about 5 inches wide and stands about 2 1/4 inches tall. It has seen some use over the years but has survived well. Two of the toes on the left front foot are broken off at the tips and the turtle shell split at one time so that there are signs of it having been glued back together. There is also a closed crack running about 2/3rds of the length of the shell but it has not separated or weakened the shell. On the underside there is a screw that will release the head providing access to the coins inside and also serving as the pivot point for the swivel head. This bank would make a great display piece or could be used to teach a child the importance of saving money. Whatever your use for it, you will love it.
