Two Grey Hills Navajo Rug, Wall-hanging

Done in the classic style and colors of Two Grey Hills weavings, this rug is in the single diamond pattern with a fretwork design surrounding the diamond and also bordering the piece. There are four large white stepped blocks, one in each corner, representing the four cardinal points on the compass. It measures 24 ½ inches by 36 inches. All four corners are completely intact and the white tassels at each corner are all present. It does not appear to have ever been on the floor, but there is some lint and buffing of the surface that is probably due to poor storage in the past. Otherwise, it is clean and has no odor. There is one point to mention, namely the weaver changed brown dye lots in the center diamond. As a result the brown in the middle is actually two different shades. There is a distinct line of demarcation that separates the two browns. While this is noticeable, it is not uncommon to see such color variances in handmade rugs such as this. Even a $10,000 collectors rug would have subtle dye lot variations. Also there are several lazy lines at places throughout the piece, again an indicator of the handmade nature of the piece. Other than that, all colors are consistent and strong with no signs of fading or wear. Two Grey Hills rugs are often considered to be the Cadillac of Navajo rugs. Rugs of this size and design can often command a substantial price. We have priced it well below the going rate. Please note that the photos have distorted the color a bit, making the lighter brown to appear more pink and more noticeable than it really is. This rug would be a nice wall-hanging or a great accent piece casually thrown over a chair or sofa.
