We are offering you a wonderful piece of painted folk art that is both practical and visually appealing. This tote box can be used for multiple purposes. It measures 11 inches, by 9 ½ inches, by 5 1/4 inches tall. The handle adds another 5 1/4 inches to the height making the overall height 10 ½ inches. It is constructed of nailed softwood and plywood which has been carefully undercoated with a white primary and then decorated in a camouflage design. Inside the box has been completely painted in an intense turquoise. There is a lift-off lid that reveals the inside which includes a till much like those often found on blanket chests. On the lid there is an early black plastic handle. The box shows signs of use with chipping of the camo paint, especially at the corners, and the plywood used to make the lid is starting to separate a bit on one edge. On several of the lower corners of the box the plywood has chipped away and other corners reveal the plywood as the decorative paint has worn off. These condition issues are mentioned for full disclosure and they do not detract from the visual aspects of the piece or its possible use in any way. We have no idea if the box was made for a specific purpose. The camo paint suggests that it could have been used by a hunter to store supplies, but that is strictly a guess with no other supporting evidence other than the camo paint. Regardless of its original intended use, it is a great little tote that will no doubt be will used and appreciated, and should give much pleasure to its new owner.
