Memoirs of General William T. Sherman Volumes I & II, by William T Sherman, 1875
The Sesquicentennial of the Civil War is here and we have a number of wonderful and scarce books to satisfy your need for historical materials. We are offering a really nice copy of the two volume set of the memoirs of William Tecumseh Sherman. Although he is primarily known for his work at Shiloh, Vicksburg and the march across Georgia, he led a full life and this book covers it all. Published in 1875 by D. Appleton, NY, the books are in very good condition and are first editions. The two hardcover volumes have 405 and 409 pp + ads, respectively, and this set includes the enormous map in a pocket at back of volume two that is usually missing from these books. This is a nice tight set. The pages are clean and the binding is sound. There are two penciled owners signatures on the inside covers, but other than that there are no other markings. Both the inside and outside hinges are solid although there is some fraying at the top and bottom of both spines. The navy blue cloth covers of both copies are bright and clean. The gold stamped designs on the front covers and spine are still bright. The map is in very good condition with minor separations at several of the folds and with some yellowing from age. It measures a substantial 33 inches by 47 inches! The map pocket inside the back cover of the second volume has a 1.5 inch tear that is most likely a result of trying to remove the map. This is an outstanding set of books in surprisingly good condition. Civil War enthusiasts will love and need these volumes to complete their materials about Sherman.
