Sweetpea Cottage has located a number of rare books that deal with western expansion. In this listing we are offering a book that is part of the series published by Arthur H. Clark Co. The book is a history of the North brothers who were two of the most important scouts in the exploration and settling of the West. The full title of the book is "Two Great Scouts and Their Pawnee Battalion, The Experiences of Frank J. North and Luther H. North, Pioneers in the Great West, 1856-1882, and their defence of the building of the Union Pacific Railroad." It is an octavo first edition published in 1928 by Arthur H. Clark Company, Cleveland, OH. There are 299 pages including a preface, illustrations, a two color map, bibliography and an index. This copy is in fine condition. There are no library stamps and the cover is clean and sound with only minor scuffing at the top and bottom of the spine along with one small spot on the spine. There is a very small pasted sticker on the inside cover from an early owner along with an additional inked address from another previous owner. The book is clean and tight. It is worth mentioning that the book was written by George Bird Grinnell one of the early experts on Indians of the plains. He has done classic studies of the Cheyenne and has made many other contributions to the white man's understanding of the Native Americans. It is definitely a highly collectible copy of a scarce book and it will be a proud addition to any collection.
