FREE SHIPPING! Huge Highly Graphic Navajo Weaving, 1930's

Imagine your collection of Thomas Molesworth furniture proudly sitting on this dramatic early Navajo rug! It is difficult to classify the rug by name or region, but it has a huge stepped diamond pattern in the center which brings to mind many Ganado rugs. There are very strong graphic elements to it both in the diamond patterns and the large fields of block colors in the four corners. It was probably woven in the late 20's or early 30's. The design is boldly graphic, in the style of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the Stickley era. There are lots of desirable lazy lines. It is an extremely heavy weave that exudes confidence in its integrity and radiates quiet charm and warmth. The dimensions are approximately 4 feet 2 inches by 8 feet 1 ½ inches and it is a fairly straight rug with no significant deviations from being a rectangle.

The rug is in good condition. It definitely has an A side and a B side. We have photographed both sides. The A side is quite bright and clean, while the B side is faded and dirty. There is no question but that this rug has been on a floor at one time, explaining the B side. The B side has many scattered spots where there are small holes and stains. There is no odor to the rug so it was probably in a pet-free and smoke-free environment. The A side also has a few spots and small holes, but they are far and few between, being hardly noticeable unless you are on your hands and knees. The corners are intact and the tassels are all present. The edges are in good shape with only a couple of spots where the edge has pulled apart. This is hardly noticeable and we only mention it for full disclosure. Check the photos carefully and you should be able to get a sense of the quality of the rug. As a floor rug, it has survived in surprisingly good shape. We do not know if it has ever been cleaned. If we were to keep it, then we would have it cleaned. The cleaning process would undoubtedly bring forth the brightness of the side B. Remember, it was all hand made many, many years ago on a traditional loom by a true artisan.

This is a very nice looking rug that because of its size would display best on the floor. It is perfect for the floor in a ranch house or rural retreat. The photos are very large, so that you can use Ruby Lane's close-up function to better see the details. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to send email. The graphic design makes it very special. So, move your Molesworth furniture aside, roll this rug down, put the furniture back and relax! You will love the feel of your "new" room.
