Sweetpea Cottage is offering a wonderful sewing collectible. As a piece of folk art or a type of tramp art, this combination sewing box / pin cushion is finely crafted out of old wooden boxes and beautifully inlaid with a variety of designs. On the underside an impressed logo is still slightly visible as a reminder that this sewing item was constructed from pieces of scrap wood and veneers. The inlaid designs around the top and sides are well-executed with just enough imprecision to reflect the homemade nature of the piece. It appears that the fabric used in the pin cushion on the top is still original to the piece. Usually the fabric on this type of old pin cushion is threadbare and rather motley looking. Not so in this case as it is in surprisingly good condition. There is also blue fabric lining the drawer that appears to be quite old. There is a bit of minor damage restricted to the drawer front. A splinter of wood is missing from the upper left corner and there is a split on the lower left corner. In our opinion, none of this is objectionable and it definitely does not detract from the look of the box. The dimensions are a maximum of 6 1/8 by 7 1/4 inches square and it stands a total of approximately 6 inches tall. The drawer front measures 1 5/8 by 3 3/8 inches.
This is definitely a one-of-a-kind item that is sure to enhance your collection of sewing memorabilia. Once it is gone, there will not be another one.
