35% Off! Interlaken Decorated Pencil Box w/ Tambour Roll Top Lid

Over the years we have handled many souvenirs of the Black Forest and Switzerland. Interlaken has become a favorite of ours, but never so much as with this wonderful souvenir pencil box with the unique Roll-top lid. The lid has a hand carved edelweiss design with "Interlaken" decorating the center. The carved design is lightly painted to provide just a hint of color. Whoever made this box clearly knew what he or she was doing. When you look at the lid you would never suspect that it rolls up, because the tiny boards fit so well together. Even the sides are decorated with a grooved molding design to avoid the boring look of plain sides. It is completely made from a dark brown wood which we suspect to be mahogany. Condition is terrific with light wear consistent with age and use. There are a number of dark spots where ink spilled onto the wood, but it is devoid of any other significant problems. Most importantly, the lid works very smoothly and adds the piece-de-resistance to this terrific box. The dimensions are 9 ½ by 2 1/4 by 1 3/8 inches.
