Pair of Signed Goberg Knights in Armor Electric Lamps

Collectors of Goberg – brace yourself--Sweetpea Cottage is offering this marvelous set of two signed Goberg (Jugendstil) electric lamps that consist of two knights in armor both holding up lamp posts with four-corned lamp cages. Jugendstil was the German component of the Arts and Crafts movement that was so popular worldwide during the early 1900's and Goberg (Hugo Berger working as Goberg) is the premiere maker of iron work from that era. This set of lamps is one of Goberg's most rare items. Occasionally single lamps will be available but a set of two working lamps in excellent condition is very unusual. Each lamp stands approximately 21 inches tall to the top of the light. Each knight stands about 12 inches tall and is on a base that is 6 ½ inches by 6 ½ inches with the base elevated about 1 inch. Each of the light assemblies at the top has a small latch that allows the lid to swing back giving access to the light bulbs. We will ship them to you with the flicker bulbs still in them that were there when we obtained them. They both have old original light receptacles which we would suggest exchanging for the safer more modern receptacles. The wiring is modern but we would suggest replacing it with reproduction wiring that is in keeping with the look of the original wiring.

The condition is excellent for both lamps. They have the minor oxidation that comes with aged ironwork but it is very slight. The glass inserts in the lamps can be removed for cleaning or shipping. We believe that one of the glass inserts is not original, but is very closely matched to the original glass that was used. The base of one of the lamps has a small empty hole that might have been intended for wiring a switch into the circuit. The other base does not have that hole. The lamp cage on one of them is slightly loose so that it rotates. Other than that, both lamps are very strong and sold. This is a truly wonderful set of lamps that shows well either lit or turned off. Anybody Goth in your life will absolutely love them. If you are a Goberg collector then you must have them. What a great addition to your castle.
