Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Blue Centenary China Tea Pot Scammell's Lamberton Design Patented
It would have been brought to the table with tea for an individual diner. It holds approximately 1-1/2 - 2 cups.
The designs are scenery that is historically important to the B&ORR - the large side cameos depict the Potomac Valley and Thomas Viaduct. A smaller 1830 horse drawn car wraps around the front below the spout. Importantly, the artwork is very crisp and clear with no glaze runs (important from a collector's standpoint).
CONDITION is pristine -- incredibly clean, this looks like it has never been used. Absolutely no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or repairs. Both the lid and spout are in perfect condition. The blue decoration is extremely appealing, dark and rich and beautifully applied to sparkling white base ware.
MARKINGS: This pot is bottom marked by the manufacturer Scammell's, with the word Lamberton referring to the company's higher quality grade of chinaware. Important: The words "Design Patented" identify it specifically as being from the "second generation" of Centenary china, ordered in the mid-late 1930s into the early 1940s.
