Delaware Lackawanna & Western RR 1916 coal company calendar - FREE U.S.A. POSTAGE
As printed at its upper left, this calendar was made for the Empire Coal Co., D.,L. & W. SCRANTON COAL . Apparently located in Scranton, Pennsylvania at 1559 Steuben Street, telephone 569. At the top are printed the owners’ names: Phillip E. Lewis and William J. Davies.
CONDITION: Overall excellent. Clearly this has never been hung although there is a fabric ribbon threaded through top holes which are unworn. The calendar pad is for December 1916, this is the last month and it is clear that the previous 11 pages have been removed. There is a gentle ripple and some very light creases mostly on the left side. All four corners are bumped, the upper right is the worst but with framing this would disappear. There is a very light, hard to see stain on the right edge approximately in the middle and a smaller one near the bottom. We have not attempted to clean this in any way but it could almost certainly be improved.
PRINT: The print is a pretty pastel water landscape so typical of the time period. It is 1-7/8 inches x 9-1/2 inches, securely mounted on the backing. At the lower left corner the artist’s name, Kenyon, is printed (this is IN the print, it is not a hand signature -- please see our last photos). The scene could be a lake in the Pennsylvania mountains.
Please take a look at the photos and be sure to email if you have any questions! A nice find for any DL&W fan, or for a vintage railway coal calendar collector.
