Fenton Favrene Glass Grape and Cable Tobacco Jar

This grape and cable tobacco jar is one of my favorite pieces in Fenton's color called Favrene. The soft silvery blue with it's colorful iridescence just mesmerizes me. Favrene glass is cobalt glass with silver in the formula. Multiple sensitive reheating processes are performed to bring out the silvery glow. Metallic salts are also sprayed on the piece and another reheating process is done to give it an iridescent effect. Fenton spent years getting this formula right and it's similar to Tiffany's blue Favrile.

The grape cable design is an old one and I love the vines of grapes and grape leaves that circle the base and lid of this tobacco jar. Sometimes it's referred to as a biscuit jar or cracker jar. It's been made in many colors of glass, but this is the loveliest in my opinion.

Overall height is 7 inches and condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, repairs or scratches.

This is a numbered piece from the 2002 Centennial Collection, when Fenton was leading up to it's one hundred year anniversary. This piece is number 423 and this number is engraved on the bottom. Christine Fenton's signature is also engraved on the bottom along with the Centennial Collection logo. An oval Fenton sticker is located on the side.
