Fenton Burmese Song Sparrow Basket Made in 2003
The name of the handpainted design on this basket is Song Sparrow and it includes a sparrow looking down on its nest, which is set amongst branches loaded with berries. There are many gold highlights on the leaves, the berries and the bird.
This piece is from Fenton's Connoisseur Collection, for which their best glass and designs were created each year. In the 2002 Connoisseur Collection, there was a Song Sparrow Burmese Lamp that sold for $650.00 and was made in limited numbers. This basket was made in 2003 to match the lamp. The baskets were limited to 2,450 pieces and this one is numbered 270 out of 2,450 on the bottom. It is also signed by the artist, D. Robinson. Where each side of the handle is attached, the 'handlers' mark has been pressed into the glass. This is like a signature, where each of the handlers has a tool that impresses a different pattern into this area.
The original price for this piece was $155.00 in 2003. A card with details on it is included. This basket is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
Sadly, the Fenton factory is no longer making art glass.
