Magnificent Prancing Horse from Italian Carousel c.1890

A wonderful example in original condition of a carved wooden Fairground Prancing Horse from a Carousel in the Italian Alpine region, dating from the late 19th century. Despite the renown of Italian woodcarvers the majority of carousels in 19th century Italy bore horses made in Germany or France. This particular prancing horse looks very similar to those of Friedrich Heyn but was possibly carved by a local artisan woodcarver in the region.

In good original condition with wear and imperfections commensurate with its age and use.

Measures 57 inches high x 48 long

Item ID: 1393

$5,250 USD
