Beautiful Antique French Sterling Silver Pierced Sugar Sifter Spoon, In Presentation Box
Antique French sterling silver sugar sifter spoon, housed in the original presentation box. Finely pierced bowl. The handle is ornamented in exquisite neoclassical motifs, comprising of a winged flaming torch framed by cornucopias, petite flowers with trailing vines, and topped by a stylized palmette. To the reverse is a Grecian wreath accented by a ribbon bow. The craftsmanship is exquisite with minute details that are finely executed. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000 (95% pure silver and a higher grade than .925 sterling). Also bearing a silversmith's mark Antoine Lapparra, active from 1895-1902, whose firm was located at 3 rue de la Perle in Paris. Measures 7 3/4" length. The presentation box or case is lined with a cream velvet and satin fitted interior, marked for the retailer as follows: Ed. Armelin, Ft. Breveté, Maison Fondée en 1780, Angoulême. Box measures 10" length x 4" width and 1 3/4" height. Overall in good antique condition, the presentation box shows wear commensurate with age.
