Antique French Sterling Silver Cut Glass Lidded Service Dish & Tray, Caviar
Elegant antique French sterling silver and cut glass lidded service dish with attached tray, adorned in neoclassical ornamentation. Ideal for serving caviar or condiments. Exquisitely decorated in Louis XVI ribbon & reed motif. Encircling the dish is an engraved Grecian laurel leaf intaglio. To the base is a deep 16-point wheel cut star-burst. In good overall condition, there is a small dent to the edge of the sterling lid visible in the photos. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her indicating a silver content of .950/1000 silver, 95% pure silver and a higher grade than .925 sterling. Also bearing an silversmith's mark Joseph CROSSARD, active from 1900-1920, whose firm was located at 36 rue de Montmorency in Paris. Measures 3 1/8" total height x 3 1/2" diameter at the opening x 5" diameter at the base.
