A lovely French Napoleon III era opaline glass scent bottle. This striking antique perfume bottle is of white opaline glass, featuring an extremely detailed, reticulated filigree encasement engraved with such charming adornments as flowers and foliage. The center features in high relief a beautifully detailed pair of love birds, their tiny beaks gently embraced in a romantic kiss! Simply charming! The crown shaped hinged lid is also decorated with engraved florals. Suspended from a delicate link chain, ideal for a chatelaine, this wonderful scent bottle is perfect for any perfume and/or opaline collection! Measures 2 3/8" tall, sans chain. Not only a fine example of antique opaline glass, but a charming whimsey treasure from the Napoleon III era, and likely a Grand Tour souvenir trinket from one of the many boutiques along the Palais Royale. Opaline glass is truly stunning, ranging in a variety of colors and shapes and great to collect and display for all to see! Such pieces of gorgeous opaline can be found in the book 'Les Opalines' by Christine Vincendeau. In good condition for its age with no chips or cracks, general wear, lacking a stopper.
