An impressive Napoleon III era French gaming box or games caddy. Of burl wood inlay with ebonized wood trimming and elegant inlaid brass stringing. Adding to the beauty is a boulle inlaid cartouche with mother of pearl accents, blank of monogram. The sides also feature such gorgeous burl wood, with ebonized corners. The lid opens to reveal a dark wooden interior, divided compartments to house gaming cards and player gaming chips. Inside are several ox bone gambling chips, and a pair of carved ox bone dice as well as an old whist counter / marker (which shows some damage as seen in the photos). In overall good condition for its age with general wear, lacking the key. There is a push or indentation from age and use in the wood located on the front bottom edge. Box measures 12 1/4" x 9 1/4" x 2 5/8" tall
