Antique French Dieppe Carved Figural Wax Seal

Antique carved ivory figural wax seal, likely carved in the port-city of Dieppe, France, circa mid 1800s. Dieppe was the most famous center for this type of carving in the 19th century and this is an outstanding example, so much attention to detail and charm. The handle is meticulously carved in the depiction of a little girl in an Elizabethan gown with a flower in hand. Simply adorable, with cherubic features and a little smile on her face, her hair cut in a short bob and she wears a gorgeous gown with ruff collar. The metal base, bronze or brass, has darkened over time with a nice patina and the circular matrix features initials T.J. In overall good antique condition, patina to the ivory accumulated from age and use. I do see a line in the ivory consistent with age, located to the front of the gown (please see photos). Measures 3" tall, the matrix measures 1 1/8" in diameter
