Antique French Sterling Silver & Baccarat Crystal Wine Decanter, Michelangelo Pattern

Stunning and exceptionally rare is this antique 19th century French sterling silver & Baccarat crystal wine decanter in the most sought after Baccarat pattern, MICHELANGELO. Featuring sterling silver mounts at the neck and base and covered in an ornate pattern of acid etched intaglio floral swirls. Hallmarked with the French standard Minerva 1 mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000 (higher than .925 sterling and almost pure silver, 95%!) Also bears maker's marks, of initials LP with a peach in the center, for silversmith Louis Péchard, active in 1911, whose workshop was located at 94 rue du Temple in Paris. The base and stopper of the crystal decanter are both etched with the number 44. Not signed, however, Baccarat did not use their acid signature until 1936. Before that, the company used paper labels, which often times got lost or worn/washed away with time. Overall this amazing wine decanter is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks and shows little signs of wear for its age. Measures 10 7/8" tall x 6" in diameter at its widest.
