13pc Antique French Gilded Vermeil Sterling Silver Dessert or Ice Cream Serving Set

A stunning antique French gilt vermeil 950 sterling silver ice cream dessert service for 12, all housed within the original presentation box. The handles are decorated with a classical Grecian laurel patterned frieze and crowned by a majestic Napoleonic eagle. Fully hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, depicting the head of the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000 silver (95% pure silver and a higher grade than .925 sterling!) Bearing maker's marks for silversmiths Risler & Carré, active from 1897-1912 at 16 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris. The server measures 8 1/8" length, spoons measure 4 7/8". Total silver weight is 411g. Presentation box measures 14 3/4" x 12". In very good antique condition since the box has housed this set protectively over the years, the service shows little signs of use with a couple of scratches to the vermeil on the back of the bowls. The box is lined in ruched cream colored velvet and shows wear consistent with age. Hinged at the reverse but lacking latches at the front, it still houses the service well and securely.
