A stunning antique French gilt vermeil 950 sterling silver ice cream dessert service for 12, all housed within the original presentation box. The handles are decorated with a classical Grecian laurel patterned frieze and crowned by a majestic Napoleonic eagle. Fully hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, depicting the head of the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000 silver (95% pure silver and a higher grade than .925 sterling!) Bearing maker's marks for silversmiths Risler & Carré, active from 1897-1912 at 16 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris. The server measures 8 1/8" length, spoons measure 4 7/8". Total silver weight is 411g. Housed in the original cream velvet lined presentation box measuring 14 3/4" x 12". In good condition with general wear. Presentation box shows wear to the interior and lacking the front latches.
