An antique French liquor tantalus or cellarette in the form of a stack of books. With the look and appeal of a collection of antique volumes, but with the convenience of a liquor tantalus inconspicuously hidden within. The top features a gilded coat of arms, depicting a heraldic shield beneath a Comte's crown flanked by greyhound or whippet supporters. An ideal gift, and just perfect on a desk in a private library or office setting. The set comprises of a stoppered decanter and a pair of glasses, all edged in gilt and nestled in their fitted compartments. The glasses are marked Made in France. The leather bound books have worn bindings, with gold leaf accents and legible titles, mostly relating to poetry and history it seems. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age, no chips or cracks to the glassware. Measures 6 3/4" length x 4 1/4" width x 4 1/4" height.
