An antique enamel and glass patch box, attributed to Moser. Of rich cobalt blue glass, the hinged lid featuring a lovely motif of pansy flowers atop gilded leaves with raised enamel accents. Smooth metal mounts encircle the box with an S shaped clasp at the center. In good condition with some wear commensurate with age. Measures 2 5/8" diameter x 1 3/8" tall.
Patch boxes were often used to store small fake beauty spots, very fashionable between the 18th and 19th centuries. These bright colorful boxes, made either from glass or enameled over metal, were often given as a sign of love or friendship, and were very decorative. What a perfect gift or addition to any collection!
