A large and impressive antique French Napoleon III era hair artwork mourning memento. Expertly worked into flowers and various leaves set amongst thick curls all entirely worked from the hair of a loved one arranged atop a glass panel. Bearing a dedication to one's beloved daughter, 'Souvenir de ma fille bien-aimèe Marie Pioche'. Housed in an ebonized wooden frame and encased beneath a highly convex/bombe glass. In overall good antique condition showing some age related wear to the frame, there are a few loose petals within and some dust beneath the glass. To the reverse is an old paper backing and a brass loop ring for hanging display. A large piece, the oval frame measures 11 1/4" height x 10 3/8" width.
