A charming 19th century French Napoleon III era pocket watch holder, case or box. Ebonized wooden exterior inlaid with numerous brass quatrefoils and stringing. With push button closure and hinged lid, opening to reveal a red velvet and satin lined interior with a fitted compartment ideal for a pocket watch and winding key. The lid bears a retailer's ad for A. Humbert Droz of 137 Galerie de Valois, Palais Royal, in Paris. Measures 3 5/8" length x 2 1/2" width x 1" tall. In good condition for its age with general wear, one brass stringing on the lid is lifting slightly and there are two thin stress or age cracks to the wood at the very base.
