Beautiful Daum France frosted art glass sculpture of a young man's head in profile after a design by Greek artist Alexander Fassianos (born Athens 1935). This is a limited edition numbered piece marked on the underside Daum France, 858/2000, A. Fassianos. This figure is known as Kallistis, which in Greek means "For the fairest one." According to Greek mythology, a golden apple with the word Kallistis inscribed on it, was thrown into a banquet by Eris, goddess of discord, who wasn't invited. The ensuing quarrell among Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite (who each considered that the golden apple was meant for her) to possess the golden apple eventually led to the Trojan War. Perfect gift for the "fairest one" in your life. Can serve as a paperweight or simply for decorative purposes. Undated but we have seen similar items dated c. 1980's. In very good condition as shown.
