Rustic French Faux Bamboo and Wood Bronze Handled Case Box - c. 19th Century, France

Charming rustic French bamboo and wood box, with bronze handle and latch, and tapestry top, possibly used as a sewing box or to store threads. Label on the underside reads: "Maison Universelle, Toulouse" the name of a large French retailer owned by a Monsieur Labit, active in Toulouse in the late 1800's. There is an interesting French Legislation on Trademarks case related to this retailer described in an 1886 issue of The Economist. In good used condition with replaced textile, wood cracks and imperfections from the time of manufacture as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.

Measurements: 11.75" wide by 10 1/8" deep by 3.5" tall including feet.
