Extraordinary solid silver and crystal figural drinking tankard hallmarked with Austro-Hungarian .800 silver Dianakopf (Diana head) mark used after 1867; small AA marks, an indication that it may have been made in Vienna; and MK initials monogram on reverse of figural thumb piece. Finely chased silver lid is decorated with three dimensional figural masks and fruit and is crowned with a dog finial. The Austro-Hungarian Empire started in 1867, following the Austrian Empire. The dual Monarchy instituted a hallmarking system for the entire empire. The Austro-Hungarian Empire ended in 1919 with the end of World War I, and its hallmarks retired in 1922.
