Maritime Watercolor Ship Painting Signed by Artist Monogram - c. 19th Century, UK

Extraordinary watercolor painting depicting a stranded, wrecked schooner on a beach, it's name still partially visible on the ship's stern: "... of Barnstaple." The watercolor is signed on the lower left with the painter's monogram in red at lower left (NG, GN, CN or NC). After extensive research the only similar monogram that we have found is that of French Impressionist era painter and engraver Norbert Goeneutte (French, 1854-1894) who traveled and painted in England c. 1880. Although his subject matter included similar, maritime subjects we have no certainty that he is the author of this watercolor. The port of Barnstaple in North Devon, UK, was once a center of a flourishing woolen industry that traded all over world. In very good condition with toning as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
