Antique humorous genre picture engraving entitled "When a man's single he lives at his ease" after the 1877 work by the same name by Victorian / Edwardian artist John Watson Nicol. It is signed on the plate J. Watson Nicol 1877, c.a. May a97. John Watson Nicol (1856-1926)was the son of the Irish-Scots painter Erskine Nicol (1825-1904). Like his father, John is best known for his portrayal of the emigrant experience, the prime example being his masterpiece 'Lochaber No More'. Comes in its original oak wood frame. In good condition with paper toning and brittle edges that can be mostly concealed with a new mat. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
