Two Antique Pottery Pitchers 1854 English Registry Marks - Reg. 1854, England

Rare, extraordinary and decorative pair (different sizes) of early English glazed earthenware pitchers. This classical design of high arched spouts, foot rims and large, textured handles is a fine example of how 19th Century designers re-interpreted the shapes and designs of classical objects inspired by archaeological discoveries in Egypt, Greece, Rome, Persia, etc. They are decorated with gilt and jewel-like molded turquoise color enamel accents on a cream colored ground. Both pieces have impressed English Registry or Kite Marks (the letter J corresponds to 1854 registries). This mark was used by Minton & Co. and other English factories between 1842 and 1883. In very good, clean condition with mold marks from the time of manufacture and age hairlines typical of earthenware. Shipped fully insured with tracking number. Measurements: Large Jug: 8.5" (21.6 cm) tall. Medium Jug: 7.5" (19.1 cm) tall approximately.
