Homer Laughlin Eggshell Georgian HLC #G3432 "Countess" Soup Bowls (8 available)
Homer Laughlin was a household name when it came to dinnerware in the 1930-40s, partly because of their Eggshell Georgian line. Since so many women-- particularly those in rural areas--depended upon catalogs from which to purchase their household goods, Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Wards advertised the Homer Laughlin products. Even if the women didn't actually buy the product from the catalog, they were able to "shop" and select their pattern, then purchase the set from the nearest Sears or Wards store. I mention the catalogs because Sears and Wards each listed a Homer Laughlin pattern which was eerily similar...Countess and Cashmere. Countess was listed by Sears Roebuck and is the one with the "dropped" rose; Cashmere, which was listed by Montgomery Wards, is the same design and does not have the dropped rose, but does have tiny blue flowers in the fern-like fronds. Countess is their Plate 150, HLC #G3432.
The Countess soup bowl measures 8 1/8" and has the line and bead embossed edge which helps to identify Eggshell Georgian. The gold trim is lovely and there are little or no use marks. I find no chips or cracks. These are such lovely bowls.
Although I have eight soup bowls available, this listing is priced per bowl.
Please check out my other Countess pieces listed on Ruby Lane. I will be happy to combine for savings on shipping and insurance fees. Remember...I do not charge any handling fees.
