American leather airplane pilots helmet---1930s

This is a really neat piece. A leather airplane pilot's helmet or cap. Interior of the piece has the original 'Western Electric No. 1-A Helmet Patent Applied For Medium Size' stitched tag. Initials scripted inside as follows: "L.F., C.B., and C.K.B." Nice supple leather in overall good condition (minor tear to back---see photo). Chip strap remains and is signed C R Blake. Ear cover protectors are a more solid material under the leather. I have no idea if this would have been for military use or civilian. Great display piece circa 1930s I would say.
