This wonderful 19th century shaving mug is a fabulous dark pink color with gold overlay and trim. Both sides are decorated with gorgeous cameos of handpainted roses and forget-me-not flowers and the front cartouche has two names, George St. John and S. Hodgins, in lovely gold script. While Victorian barber shop mugs were marked with individual names, it is unusual to have two names on a mug and we believe this was a wedding present to George on the occasion of his marriage to S. Hodgins, quite possibly from his bride.
The mug is in excellent condition with only minimal wear to the gilding. It is 3" high with a diameter at the top of 3 1/8". This would be a very special and beautiful addition to a collection of antique shaving mugs!
