A magnificent portrait vase of a young woman with flowing hair in the foreground and a wonderful scene of meadows, stream, and mountains in the background encircling the entire vase. The detailed, distinct image of the girl stands out beautifully against the softer muted tones of the landscape and is highlighted by the rich turquoise border with its fabulous raised gold geometric pattern. The background colors are wonderful and include mauve, green, yellow and blue and the hand painting is complemented by the bulbous form and impressive size. The vase is approximately 8 1/2" high and 8" across. It has the Royal Bonn FM Germany mark of Franz Anton Mehlem's pottery on the underside with both hand painted and impressed numbers. This very decorative vase dates from the 1880-1920 period and is in excellent condition with only a couple of light scratches and light wear to the gilding on the rim that are primarily on the inside of the rim and do not detract from this marvelous vase.
