1910 Edwardian Sterling Silver Ink Well P W Monogram
This Edwardian ink well has wonderful clean lines and curving form with the simplicity of the design enhanced by the engraved, entwined letters P & W on the top. It is weighted sterling silver with the British hallmarks for Birmingham 1910 and the makers' mark PS or perhaps RS. The base has a diameter of 5 1/2" and the ink stands 3" high. The style is often referred to as ship's captain because of the wide flared and weighted base that would keep it upright in stormy seas. This terrific antique desk accessory is overall in excellent condition but is missing its glass liner and the hinged top is ever so slightly above the base on one side. These are not noticeable and there are remarkably few signs of age/use particularly considering this lovely ink is now 100 years old!
