This is a C1930s Lenci Cloth Doll with Washable Face measuring 19" and wearing her Original Clothing. During the 1930's Lenci tried unsuccessfully to coat a felt dolls face with cellulose to make it washable. The doll did not appeal to buyers and Lenci quickly dropped production of the doll. This washable face Lenci doll has an appropriately clean cloth body including a cotton muslin torso (I did not remove the dress to photograph the body as the dress sleeve armholes are snug and may have damaged the fabric if I had tried to force the clothing off the doll), cotton flannel? cloth arms and legs, felt head with cellulose covered face (the cellulose has all over crazing to it), hands with second and third finger stitched together, blonde mohair wig, painted gray eyes with darker gray pupil and white dot highlight, densely painted long upper and lower lashes, multistroke eyebrows, two color red lips, and cheek blush. The doll has the Lenci white ribbon tag with black lettering stitched to her back. This beautiful doll wears her original silk print dress with magenta red felt trim (a bit of fade to the front of the dress and two stitched repaired mends to the fabric in the back of the dress bodice), original magenta felt shoes and socks (some aging to the knit fabric), and no panties.
