Antique English Chess Board / Games Box c.1900

The hinged box opens to reveal storage space for games pieces, the carved Staunton style chess set shown is later but included in the sale to get you started.

Once closed the box has two playing boards, one on top and one on the underside. The top one is for Chess and English Draughts or Checkers and the other side for French Draughts or Checkers which consists of a 10 x 10 pattern (100 squares). You should be able to find information regarding playing this lesser known French game and of course you will need some counters (20 of each).

Excellent condition, this games box measures 12 1/4" square with the chess tiles measuring 1 3/8" and the French Checkers square measuring 1 1/16th. The King stands 2 5/8" tall
