Antique English Letters Box In Oak With Brass c.1905

A wonderful table-top letter box made from solid English Oak mounted with a thick brass plate to the sloped top, with the red enamelled letters E R either side of a crown for Edward Reigns (Edward VII).

These boxes were for the collection of mail in grand hotels, private clubs and the homes of the aristocracy where a member of staff would collect the mail and take to the post, very civilized!

The bevelled glass window at the bottom was for the staff to see if there was mail to be collected, above this, the collection times are posted, accessed from the back of the door.

Excellent condition dating to the Edwardian era, around 1901-1910. Excellent condition with a footprint measuring 10" x 7 1/2" and stands 14 1/2" high. Complete with working tasseled key.
