Antique English Oak & Brass Letters Box c.1890
Made from solid English Oak, the wood has a lovely rich colour and bright waxed patina. The front has a fretted brass panel allowing one to see if there were any letters inside.
These would have been used in hotels, private clubs and the grandest of homes, where letters would have been collected by staff for taking to the post office.
The box comes complete with it's old original key and the lock in working condition; the slot in the top of the lid is marked with a brass mounted plaque, engraved "Letters".
Excellent condition with a footprint measuring 10 1/2" x 4 3/4" x 7 1/4" tall to the top of the back panel. This panel has two holes for wall-hanging if desired, but is equally at home on a table or desk-top.
