Rare English Antique Figural Inkwell - Royal Provenance - Queen Alexandra

A rare and wonderful cast brass inkwell or inkstand in the from of horse drawn water cart mounted on the most exquisitely carved polished English Oak plinth. Each cobble or paving stone has been individually carved and includes a square drain in the gutter carved into it.

Attached to the bottom is dated provenance:

"This model watering cart (originally an ink stand! was given to Lady Deighton - Probyn (wife of Sir Deighton - Probyn one of the first VC's and later keeper of Privy Purse to Queen Alexandra) by Queen Alexandra when she ws Princess of Wales.

My great Aunt - Bathsheba Aldred (Mother's Mother's sister) was at one time Lady's maid to Lady Probyn who presented her with the model when leaving her employ. It was handed down through mother to me. Gilberty Crossley, 12 Yardley Rd, Waltch, Warrington. 4 May 1955".

The lid to the card opens to reveal a removable ink chamber which when removed reveals a plaque inscribed with the date 1878 and the initials D C, presumably the artist.

Quite wonderful, certainly unique .. an heirloom antique in wonderful condition. the plinth measures 7" x 5 1/2".
