Circa 1840 European watercolor painting of bridge, ruins and tower in Old World city probably French

Circa 1840's watercolor on paper (not likely later than 1860), apparently unsigned, 16 1/4" by 10 1/2" (25" by 20 1/2" as framed), showing a classic European tower above an arched stone bridge in a city, several figures in period clothing going about their daily lives. This is in amazingly fresh condition, with vibrant fresh color and a minimum of foxing. The drawing is in a frame that dates to the 19th century and it appears to have not been previously opened, since the original square nails and acidic sawn wood boards remain. I peeked behind it and it appears that the drawing is laid onto a thin board. Reframed, this work will really shine. I can only speculate as to authorship. My best guess is that the artist was probably French or English. I AM quite confident that that artist would be a listed artist, were the name known. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
