C. HARRY ALLIS (1870-1938) listed California artist early American watercolor painting coastal house and figure

Watercolor on paper, 5 1/2" by 12 1/2" (12" by 19" as framed), signed at lower right by listed artist C. HARRY ALLIS (1870-1938). This appears to be a late 19th or early 20th century view of a simple wooden house near a coastline, with a single female figure in front of the house. Allis didn't arrive in California until 1912, but he traveled around a lot before that.....studying in Barbizon, France and academically with the famed Bouguereau....and he was evidently in New York, New Hope area of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Michigan, and even Puerto Rico. I'd imagine this work pre-dates his California days. See askart for much more on the artist. He taught for a long time at the Detroit Museum of Art School, and was an art critic for the Detroit Free Press. Allis was a member of the American Watercolor Society, Salmagundi Club, Society of Western Artists. Today he is best known for his impressionistic art in oil, much of it from late in his career in Southern California, where he was a resident of Long Beach and Los Angeles. This watercolor is in excellent fresh condition, with only a few tiny foxing spots. The white spot in the sky at left (NOT the one above the woman in one photo, which is a reflection) is a slight mystery to me; could be the artist's intent, as in to show a cloud, or it could be an old dig that someone tried to cover with white gouache? Allow for reflections in all photos. Some have a purplish tone due to photos being taken in artificial light. Frame is old and functional but not all that complementary.
